Hoover Dam Marathon

Hoover Dam Marathon

We traveled to Boulder City Nevada, which is about 20 miles outside of Las Vegas, to run the Hoover Dam marathon. Boulder City was originally created to house the workers who built Hoover Dam from 1931 to 1936.

We took a tour of the dam which included the tunnels inside of the Dam.

The Hoover Dam marathon started in Boulder City and followed bike paths and an old rail-trail to the Hoover Dam Visitor Center and then back (twice).

We had a beautiful day and much of the course was above Lake Mead. The water levels of Lake Mead are at historic lows and the future of the dam and power plant are uncertain.

The marathon followed part of the railroad bed that connecting Boulder City and Lake Mead. This was originally a railroad to transport supplies from Boulder City to Hoover Dam during construction.

The marathon was tough (lots of hills) but we both did well in our age groups.
